Additive Manufacture
We 3d print your parts with the requirement you ordered.
Post process
The natural finish of HP Multi Jet Fusion (MJF) parts is a matte grey, which can be dyed black or chemically smoothed.
A chemically smoothed finish achieves a surface quality approaching injection molding without impacting the mechanical properties of thermoplastic polymer 3D printed parts, including Nylons and TPU. This technology also seals the surface of additive manufactured parts against liquid and gas ingress by removing porosity.
Surface finishes
1.Painting
In any desired color in accordance with RAL or NCS, in a chrome effect … Components can be painted in any desired color in accordance with RAL or NCS. Alternatively, we offer additional finishes, including soft touch, chrome effect / galvanic surfaces or EMC coatings.
The soft-touch coating gives the component a special feel, similar to a light rubber coating. We apply special transparent lacquers with a thickness of just tenths of a millimeter to a colored model or a tinted vacuum-cast part. This process corresponds exactly to that used in series production.
With a chrome effect or galvanic lacquer surface you can give your component the appearance of a metal part.
EMC coating of the components is also possible. By coating plastic parts with EMC lacquer, undesired emissions of electrical energy and electromagnetic effects can be prevented.
3D printed parts are often difficult to finish. In order to provide the parts with better surfaces for subsequent finishing, they can be treated with spray putty and then painted, either by you or at 1zu1. However, slight surface defects are possible due to the rough base material. Nevertheless, the fine construction gradation always ensures attractive yet cost-effective models.
2.Texturing-Creation of rough surfaces
In order to texture the components, they can be given a special finish or their surfaces can be roughened using an EDM process.
The special lacquering is applied to 3D-printed parts, the roughening of surfaces by means of EDM processes is mainly used for tools intended for production of injection-molded plastic parts with specific aesthetic and haptic properties. We use the VDI 3400 guideline to describe the roughness of these eroded surfaces. Textured surfaces are also possible on parts manufactured in our cleanroom.
On request, the parts can be completely or partially textured.
3.Infiltration - For sealing thin-walled parts or coloring parts.
When parts cool down, micro-cracks can form which can impair the tightness of thin-walled components. Therefore, as an option we offer “tight infiltration” of the laser-sintered parts via an immersion process. This allows the sealant to also be applied to inaccessible areas that cannot be reached with paint.
Color infiltration, which allows the material to be dyed in various colors, is suitable for components manufactured using rubber laser sintering or Voxeljet processes.
4.Polishing -High gloss
Polishing is a fine-machining process that is used to smoothe various materials. We polish components to a smooth, gloss or high-gloss finish. By polishing STL parts made from Somos® WaterClear or ProtoTherm ,a transparent finish is also possible.
Tumbling-Smoothing of roughly sanded surfaces
Vibratory finishing is offered to somewhat smooth the slightly rough, sanded surface. This process is most effective on exposed edges and primarily affects the part’s external surfaces. Parts made of PA2200 or PA3200 GF with a max. edge length of 150 mm can be machined using this method. We do not recommend this process for very delicate parts. If you have any questions regarding feasibility, please send us a data set.
